Bakkafrost is active in fish farming. The main production consists of Faroese salmon. The company was founded in 1968 and the production previously consisted only of herring, but in 1979 it moved towards a complete focus on salmon farming. In addition, the company also produces fishmeal and fish oil. The company operates on a global level, with headquarters in Glyvrar, Faroe Islands.
