Bakkafrost is active in fish farming. The main production consists of Faroese salmon. The company was founded in 1968 and production previously consisted only of herring. In 1979 the company moved towards a complete focus on salmon farming. In addition to the main production, the company also produces fishmeal and fish oil. The company has operations on a global level, with headquarters in Glyvrar, Faroe Islands.
