Sampo is a Nordic property and casualty insurer operating also in the UK and in the Baltics. In the Nordics, Sampo provides insurance services across all countries, customer segments and products. This is always equally confusing. The stock exchange release states very clearly:  The Board of Directors proposes that the Annual General Meeting authorize the Board of Directors to decide, in one or more installments, on the acquisition of a maximum of 250,000,000 own A shares of Sampo plc.  “Authorize the Board of Directors to decide.” Not to buy, but to decide on the purchase. That is, to authorize the Board to buy or not to buy at its own discretion. The wording is roughly the same every year. And financial journalists don’t understand this. I understand if a rank-and-file reporter doesn’t get it, but come on, a financial journalist should understand these recurring matters. (And often, shareholders don’t grasp this authorization either, based on their speeches at AGMs.) EDIT: Kauppalehti corrected its headline.

I already pointed this out to the media company in question. The board is definitely not proposing a 250 million share buyback. This is a standard authorization obtained from the general meeting every year for the board to decide on buybacks at its discretion.

I’ve come across the fact that, for example, at the French insurance giant Axa, the digital figures are about half as high compared to Sampo. In the USA, even lower on average​. It’s hard to find comprehensive and fully comparable data. So, is Sampo already the Lemonade of the Nordics?

However, it should be noted that the true effectiveness of the service will only be tested in a potential claim situation.

Sure, I’m not claiming otherwise. My point was that Lemonade’s product, meaning the app, is very good and easy to use. Especially in a situation where you don’t know the local language. For instance, when I moved to France, it was significantly easier to get insurance from Lemonade than from French companies.
