Number of passengers increased by 7.3% to 9.6 million (9.0). Available seat kilometres (ASK) increased by 2.3% to 30,507.9 million kilometres (29,807.9). Including wet lease-outs, capacity decreased by 0.5%. Passenger load factor (PLF) increased by 3.2 percentage points to 80.0% (76.8).

Regarding this, the company has only commented that the 18 aircraft already committed to will go to Norra, and this is also the maximum number permitted under the current collective agreements. Therefore, as things stand, one could assume that the option aircraft would be operated by Finnair. As an addition to the earlier answer, by the way: in the longer term, the fleet renewal will certainly also affect route planning, given that the new Embraers have somewhat more capacity than the old Embraers, but are still smaller than the A320s. Route and schedule optimization will then need to be adjusted accordingly.

Will the 16 E2 options be operated by Norra or Finnair? (that is, if the options are exercised)

I’ll tackle a couple of points here myself, and add the rest to the list of questions for management   Fuel price fluctuations and fleet planning operate on rather different time horizons; the new Embraers will start arriving gradually from H2’27 onwards, and including the option aircraft, deliveries will trickle in well into the 2030s. The new aircraft are naturally more fuel-efficient and their introduction will help in that sense, but they won’t impact near-term route planning, and their effect will still be limited over the next few years. Finnair’s E2 order consists of a firm 18 + 16 options + 12 purchase rights. There are 15 A319/320 aircraft at an acute replacement age, which are temporarily being patched up with purchases of used Airbuses. Looking ahead to the 2030s, however, the new E2 aircraft will likely replace those 15 Airbuses as well as the current 12 older Embraers. Aircraft are also needed for growth, so in my view it’s a pretty safe bet that the options (16) will be exercised; as for the purchase rights, that situation will likely be assessed at a later stage. (EDIT: But logically, those purchase-right aircraft would eventually replace the newer A321s.) So the Embraer fleet will grow regardless, and since the Airbuses are the oldest aircraft, it may well be that the new Embraers will initially be added alongside the old ones, and then gradually (also) replace them.

Therefore, attention in the report will mainly focus on the outlook regarding elevated fuel costs and how to compensate for them. Let me throw in my own question too. What is the likelihood that options for the E2 series will be exercised in the coming years, and can the size of the Embraer fleet be expanded in a way that keeps the current E1 series in service while the new E2 series are introduced alongside them? In other words, will the emphasis on “Central European regional” traffic increase?
