Puuilo operates in the retail sector. The company operates and manages several stores and trading locations. The range is broad and includes household and pet products that are resold under its own or other brands. Customers mainly consist of private players around the global market. The largest presence is found in Finland.

OP maintains €14.50 and BUY.  The stock’s valuation, which has declined in recent months, is attractive relative to its long history of strong growth and profitability.

Puuilo is a good reminder for me to just own well-managed companies whose business I understand at least a little bit, and everything will go smoother.  No need to worry so much about shorter-term stock price movements, just ride along and let the smarter people do their job. All kinds of adventures would have been avoided if I could stick to my principles, but I guess I’ll soon be grabbing some HypeHydrogenRoboAIQuantumChip (HypeVetyRoboAIKvanttiSiru) company in an even smaller bull market that will make me rich. This turned into coffee room material, but it’s a joy, Puuilo.

Puuilo’s capital allocation is certainly interesting. The company grows organically at a rapid pace year after year, but it doesn’t need to invest much at all  If one looks at the operating cash flow and capital allocation, e.g., from 2020-2025, the company has cumulatively paid back 90% of its operating cash flow to shareholders in the form of dividends. Investments, by contrast, have only accounted for 13% cumulatively over the same period! I tried to visualize this a bit in a chart:  Note: Lease liability payments have been deducted from operating cash flow.     From Operating Cash Flow 2021-2025      To Investments 13 %   To Acquisitions 0 %   To Dividends 90 %   To Share Repurchases 2 %    This is indeed a somewhat rare combination of growth and dividends  And why not? There’s no need to invest any more of that cash flow if the company can achieve such a return on capital employed (ROCE) of about 30% by carefully selecting suitable store locations, etc., and still grow significantly even in bad times    Usually, I’m always complaining in company threads when capital is allocated to dividend payments when there could be better uses for it, but in Puuilo’s case, I’m not complaining  If a company can grow with such small investments and so profitably, but has a very limited runway left in its domestic market, then by all means, the money should go to shareholders rather than, say, going the Tokmanni route and buying some giant chain abroad  At the same time, it can quietly test its concept selectively abroad with “pocket money,” in case it can grow there someday. So, the company is in no hurry whatsoever, and there’s no need to flash any wild visions of conquering the world, or in this case, the Nordics, on strategy slides

Here are Arttu’s quick comments on Puuilo’s strong Q4 result.  Puuilo’s Q4 result was strong as expected. The good earnings development was driven by revenue growth across the group and improved relative sales margin. Puuilo’s board proposes an additional dividend in addition to the basic dividend, which together correspond to a yield of approximately 6% at yesterday’s share price. The guidance was also fully in line with expectations. Preparations for internationalization are currently underway, and the first store in Sweden will likely open in 2027. The report, which met expectations, is not expected to lead to very large forecast changes, but after the recent share price decline, we consider it likely that the share price will react positively or stronger than the market. I’m interested in the future dividend policy. Will the dividend payout ratio remain 100% of earnings from 2026 onwards? So, perhaps €0.73 per share next year. I wouldn’t otherwise believe it, but now it has become more of a rule than an exception, as an additional dividend is being paid for the second year in a row. Puuilo’s stock is really cheap at the moment if the +15% revenue growth continues.
