What’s happening at Investor: Investor - Press releases Patricia Industries’ largest holding, Mölnlycke Healthcare, is planning to split into two companies. The goal here is likely to create shareholder value as well, so I wonder if we will see the companies being listed or other measures taken in the future.

I just finished reading Scanfil’s corporate history and went straight on to another one of my favorite companies, Investor. I only found the book in English at the Parliament Library in the Helsinki metropolitan area. Of course, you can buy it from Adlibris. Based on the first few pages, it provides good background on why Investor is the company it is today.

Nostalgia for the past might be of interest in this group as well. Below is Investor’s NAV calculation as of the last day of December in 1938.

I just read Investor’s latest interim report, and a paragraph in the CEO’s review caught my eye—one that I think is being discussed surprisingly little. It opens up how Investor views Pax Silica, the technology collaboration between Sweden and the U.S., and more broadly, the whole idea that full technological sovereignty is neither realistic nor even desirable. Instead, the focus is on partnerships, shared supply chains, and the idea that networks of reliable countries and companies are building the entire AI and advanced technology value chain, from minerals to software. Investor points out that several of their companies are at the center of future industrial productivity, electrification, and connectivity, and that these large intergovernmental frameworks and Nordic alliances, such as the Nordic Compass, are a concrete way to unlock new business opportunities and mitigate risks. In other words, they aren’t just adapting to the geopolitical landscape, but actively seeking to shape it. In my opinion, this is a fairly essential part of Investor’s investment case, but it easily gets overshadowed by quarterly figures and discussions about the NAV discount. Personally, I think this explains why their companies are more likely to be included in major investment projects and standards, which is likely quite crucial in this AI revolution value chain. This angle is rarely discussed, even though this is the exact part of the story that creates value slowly but surely in the long run.

Yep. I considered adding to my position, but the company is trading at quite a high P/B ratio as well. If anything, I’m leaning more towards reducing my position after all.

I wonder if these safest and largest investment companies have acted as safe havens from the small-cap slaughter. The net asset value (NAV) discount of Industrivärden has also been eaten away to nothing.
