Gubra published its Q3 2026 trading statement this morning, and from a financial perspective it was the second-best quarter in the company’s history.

The milestone payments behind the headline numbers were already known from separate announcements during the quarter, so the genuinely new information sits in the CRO business, where profitability stepped up sharply.

The wider read is how directly the quarter underpins the 2030 strategy management presented at the Investor R&D Event in London on 27 October, built on a differentiated Biotech pipeline funded substantially by partners, a specialist CRO with high operating leverage, and Ventures as a lower-risk way to add shots on goal.

In CRO, external revenue grew 6% both sequentially and year-on-year, and the EBIT margin improved to 25% from 2% in Q2 and 0% in Q1, supported by higher activity, continued cost discipline and internal sales to Biotech of DKK 20.9 million. Growth was particularly strong in kidney-related studies. This is the first quarter in some time that shows what the business looks like once utilization recovers, and it supports the decision to hold full-year guidance after the softer H1, which was questioned at the time. In London, management guided to average annual organic CRO revenue growth of at least 10% toward 2030, referencing a 14% organic CAGR over the past decade and average EBIT margins of 20 to 30% over the past five years. Q3 makes that ambition look considerably more credible than the first half part of the year did.

The caveat is seasonality, since Q3 typically benefits from lower operating costs, and the quarter also carried an unusually high level of internal sales.

Full-year CRO guidance was narrowed to 2 to 6% external revenue growth from 0 to 10% and the EBIT margin to 10 to 13% from 10 to 15%, in both cases a reduction of one percentage point at the midpoint, which is a modest adjustment that mainly removes the tails of the ranges. With 9M CRO EBIT of DKK 19.4 million and a margin of 10% including internal sales, the narrowed full-year range implies a Q4 margin that is solid but below the Q3 level.

Within the AbbVie amylin program, the development opportunity is broadening rather than narrowing. AbbVie is now planning to explore combinations beyond chronic weight management, including an evaluation of ABBV-295 together with lutikizumab in hidradenitis suppurativa, with the platform study expected to begin in Q4 2026. The ongoing Phase 1b trial in adults with obesity remains the more immediate catalyst, with treatment durations of up to 20 weeks, a BMI range of 30 to 45 kg/m² and a higher proportion of female participants than the Phase 1 study presented at EASD, where up to approximately 10% weight loss over 12 to 13 weeks was shown in a predominantly male population with a mean baseline BMI below 30. Topline data from the Phase 1b trial are expected in H1 2027.

The Boehringer Ingelheim triple agonist is moving quickly through its own Phase 2. According to the trial’s ClinicalTrials.gov record, enrollment has been completed with 344 participants against approximately 300 originally planned, and estimated primary completion has been brought forward by two months to June 2027. Gubra has not commented on data readout timing. In our view, enrollment running ahead of plan is a reasonable proxy for partner commitment and site interest, although it says nothing about the data themselves.

GUB-UCN2 was the centerpiece of the London event, presented as a potential pipeline in a product that starts with healthier body composition in obesity and can extend into muscle wasting, healthy aging and cardiorenal disease. Nothing in the trading statement changes that framing. The comprehensive Phase 1/2a trial initiated in July is progressing, enrolling approximately 188 participants across SAD, MAD and multiple dose parts, evaluating GUB-UCN2 both as monotherapy and in combination with incretin-based therapy, with initial topline data on safety, tolerability and PK from the SAD part expected in H1 2027. The reduction in Biotech full-year cost guidance to DKK 315 to 335 million from DKK 330 to 360 million is explicitly related to the timing of development activities rather than to any narrowing of ambition, which matters given that the 2030 target of 8 to 10 clinical-stage assets and 1 to 2 development candidates nominated annually from 2030 onward rests on sustained R&D spend.

Group numbers reflect the milestones. Q3 revenue was DKK 447.7 million with EBIT of DKK 317.7 million, of which Biotech contributed DKK 394.9 million of revenue and DKK 303.2 million of EBIT. For 9M 2026, group revenue was DKK 574.1 million and EBIT DKK 194.8 million, against comparatives dominated by the DKK 2.4 billion AbbVie upfront recognised in 2025. EBIT expectations for Ventures and Gubra Green are unchanged. Gubra Green itself now manages more than 850 hectares of land for nature restoration, and the 8 MWh battery facility became fully operational in October.

The investment case from here is unchanged in structure and better funded than it was three months ago. The CRO is finally showing the operating leverage that the 2030 growth ambition depends on, two partnered Phase 2 programs are running at pace with a partner that is actively widening the ABBV-295 opportunity, and GUB-UCN2 will generate data sequentially toward H1 2027.

On Monday, we will sit down with management to go through the Q3 2026 results, followed by a live Q&A. Sign up and submit your questions here.
