Gubra: 2030 strategy puts numbers on the ambition, while near-term value drivers are unchanged

GUBRAAnalyst Comment28.10.2026, 08.00
Michael FriisHead of Equities

Summary

  • Gubra's 2030 strategy aims for a portfolio of 8-10 clinical-stage assets and annual nomination of 1-2 proprietary drug candidates from 2030 onward, focusing on obesity, age-related functional decline, and immunology.
  • The company targets around 10% annual organic revenue growth for its CRO segment toward 2030, which implies continued market share gains and aligns with historical growth rates.
  • Gubra's pipeline expansion includes GUB-UCN2 for muscle-wasting conditions and age-related decline, with new preclinical data presented but no changes to clinical timelines.
  • The strategy reinforces Gubra's differentiated approach in obesity treatment, emphasizing tolerability, quality of weight loss, and convenience, while maintaining funding through partnerships and CRO growth.

Gubra set out its strategy toward 2030 at its first Investor R&D Event yesterday,

No new financial targets were released, but Gubra now targets a portfolio of 8-10 clinical-stage assets by 2030 across proprietary, partnered and venture programs, and the nomination of 1-2 proprietary drug development candidates annually from 2030 onward. The company defined three flagship therapeutic areas: obesity and CVRM, age-related functional decline (ARFD), and immunology and inflammation. Gubra CRO targets average annual organic revenue growth of around 10% toward 2030, and Gubra Ventures aims to launch and operate 2-3 ventures by 2030.

New preclinical data on GUB-UCN2 was shown alongside an overview of the ongoing Phase 1/2a program, but no new clinical data was presented, and the timeline is unchanged, with first single ascending dose data still expected in H1 2027.

Measured against our investment case, two of these messages stand out. The first is the step from four clinical-stage assets to 8-10 by 2030. The second is the widening of GUB-UCN2 beyond obesity into two substantial end markets: muscle-wasting conditions such as sarcopenia and cachexia, and age-related functional decline more broadly. Delivered as described, either would leave substantial upside to our model, because neither sits in it today.

GUB-UCN2 beyond obesity is where the strategy expands the most relative to how we have treated the asset. The pipeline now shows GUB-UCN2 in a second indication covering sarcopenia and other muscle-wasting disorders at preclinical stage, a UCN2-based combination in obesity in discovery, and two further discovery programs in cachexia and in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. ARFD is now one of the three flagship areas, with GUB-UCN2 positioned as the transition asset into it, and management frames sarcopenia as therapeutic white space with no approved therapies.

The CRO target of around 10% organic growth toward 2030 should be seen against a preclinical CRO market growing around 7% a year, so it implies continued share gains. It also sits below the 14% organic CAGR the CRO has delivered over the past decade, which makes it read as realistic rather than stretched. In our model the CRO is valued statically at 20.3x the FY2026E peer median EV/EBIT applied to guidance-midpoint EBIT of around DKK 25.6m. A credible 10% compounder arguably deserves to be valued on a longer-term earnings base rather than a single depressed year. It should be noted, though, that the target does not address margins, and for valuation the margin path matters more than the growth rate. The Q3 trading statement on 6 November is the next test of that.

Overall, the messages gave validation to our investment case.

That case rests on Gubra offering a differentiated way to play obesity, where efficacy is largely solved by second-generation incretins and the competitive battleground has shifted to tolerability, quality of weight loss and convenience. ABBV-295 plays tolerability and dosing flexibility, BI 3034701 plays multi-receptor efficacy, and GUB-UCN2 plays body composition and muscle preservation. Top-tier partners carry the development cost while Gubra retains milestones and royalties, and the CRO segment, net cash and partnered milestones fund the pipeline without the dilution typical of early-stage biotech.

Today’s strategy reinforced each of those legs: it confirmed obesity and CVRM as the anchor, it put GUB-UCN2 at the centre of an expansion into muscle health and age-related functional decline, it set a growth ambition for the CRO that keeps the funding engine intact, and it added Ventures as a further capital-light route to value.
