Vaisala is a technology company. The company is a supplier of measurement solutions in the field of meteorology. The company's specialist expertise is found in the development of sensors, radars, and associated system solutions. Customers are found in various industries, with the greatest concentration in the aviation and energy sectors. The company operates on a global level, primarily in Europe, North America and Asia.

A few more observations regarding Atmo Inc. To begin with, a couple of highlights regarding Atmo’s revenue. According to Vaisala’s release, Atmo’s revenue in 2025 was 2 million U.S. dollars, and the contract-based revenue for 2026 is over 6 million dollars. Alex Levy, Johan Mathé, and Jeremy Lequeux founded Atmo in 2020, so a few million in revenue is understandable as such. The first years were spent on initial investments, but after that, Atmo quickly secured a strong reference client when the U.S. Department of Defense became a client as early as 2022.  A publication written by Alex Levy (published Aug 16, 2024) briefly describes Atmo winning the Air Force selection process a couple of years earlier. The selection process focused on the accuracy of the forecasts, computational efficiency and speed, as well as the reliability of the system.   → How Atmo's Dual-Scale AI Weather Forecast Earned Its Wings with the US Air Force | Atmo  Following this, in 2024, Atmo signed agreements with Tuvalu and the Philippines:  A 10-year agreement (link to Atmo’s website) has been signed with the island nation of Tuvalu for the delivery of AI weather forecasts. In October 2024, Atmo signed a multi-year agreement with the Philippines.  The importance of the U.S. Department of Defense as a client will likely be decisive in the future. This is well illustrated by the funding Atmo has received from the federal government.  Between 2022 and 2025, Atmo has been awarded research and development funding intended for federal small businesses. The SBIR.gov database contains four of Atmo’s projects, three of which are for the Air Force and one for the Navy. Mashita Lawsuit  One interesting source regarding Atmo is a lawsuit from last year. In July 2025, Atmo Inc filed a lawsuit against its former consultant and the company he founded in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California (Atmo Inc v. Mashita 4:25-cv-05652, District Court, N.D. California).  In the complaint, Atmo alleged that the individual who worked as a consultant for the company had misappropriated Atmo’s trade secrets. In December 2024, the consultant founded a new weather technology company (Aeolus Labs), where, according to Atmo’s complaint, he utilized Atmo’s trade secrets. The legal battle was avoided, however, as the case was dismissed in October 2025, so the parties likely reached some form of settlement in the dispute. Mashita, 4:25-cv-05652 – CourtListener.com). Here are a few highlights from Atmo’s complaint (link, pdf), which provide additional information about Atmo as a company.   (p. 6) Atmo’s weather simulation models operate at both global and regional levels. Precise maps can be produced to show where and when weather modification could be most effective.     (p. 6) For every successful AI model, Atmo has to create up to dozens of unsuccessful models, which can cause data computation costs to rise to hundreds of thousands of dollars.     (p. 6) Clients mentioned include Rainmaker Technology, which utilizes Atmo’s AI models for, among other things, artificial cloud seeding.     (p. 6) Atmo has become a trusted partner for international NGOs, defense forces, and corporations (such as aerospace companies).     (p. 17) Over six years (2019-2025), Atmo has spent 13 million dollars on developing AI-based weather models.     (p. 18) The AtmoDeck codebase is the most sensitive and proprietary part, as it reveals exactly how some of Atmo’s AI models are developed, tested, and deployed. Pauli has written a company report on Vaisala after Q2​  Order growth in Industrial Measurements exceeded our expectations in Q2, driven by, among other things, data center projects, and due to the company’s late-cyclical nature, this may have been just the prelude to a longer growth spurt. We expect the current year’s earnings to end up near the upper end of the guidance, and in a positive scenario, the guidance could even be exceeded. Currency headwinds are also easing or even turning into moderate tailwinds. On the other hand, the tightened valuation following the rise in the share price means that even small earnings disappointments or hiccups in the operating environment can cause more volatility in the share price than usual. We reiterate our ‘accumulate’ (lisää) recommendation and raise the target price to 58 euros following forecast upgrades (prev. 55 euros). Vaisala’s half-year report for January–June 2026 was released today. In the “Tuloslive” (Earnings Live), Pauli noted that the figures were pretty much in line with expectations, so there isn’t really much major news to report. In the CEO’s review, Öistämö shared new information regarding the Industrial Measurements business area. The business area’s largest market segments are currently:  • Health technology, which covers approximately 30% of the business area’s net sales  • Data centers, approx. 10% of the business area’s net sales  • Electric power, approx. 10% of the business area’s net sales In the audiocast [27:40], previously stated information was clarified, according to which 30% of sales come from four areas combined – namely semiconductors, batteries, data centers, and the energy sector. There were audio issues during the Q&A section of the audiocast, but luckily the recording is now available to everyone, as is the transcript. Analysts tried to fish for a bit more color on the acquisition of Atmo Inc. and the situation in the data center market. A couple of quotes from Öistämö’s longer comment regarding Atmo. He stated that the team is the world’s best AI team in the weather sector. The customer base is also willing to pay for the service. The customer base also offers synergies as well as new growth opportunities for Vaisala.  “Obviously, it is based on the business that we have, and we consider that it represents great value vis-à-vis the opportunity it brings. In especially long-term thinking about this, it is more of a long-term approach than thinking about the short-term on this.” " …we believe this is the world’s best AI team that there is in the weather domain. The second thing that I mentioned in my prepared remarks was that they also have a very interesting customer base that has verified their service. So it is really a verified service and there is customer traction. People are willing to pay for it. The customers are very interesting as well, offering us both synergies and new growth in areas where we have not had access before. And mostly I highlighted the agencies, but also the defense side, and especially the U.S. The U.S. Air Force is a very interesting reference. "  The Carnegie analyst considered Atmo’s price to be “astronomically high” and asked for justifications for the deal. According to Öistämö, this is an offensive move to gain entirely new capabilities.  “This is purely seen as an opportunity; it is an offensive move rather than a defensive one. If you think about it, you can categorize it that way. As I was alluding to, it offers us completely new capabilities which we think are completely unique in the marketplace in addition to what we already have, and obviously, we considered how long it would take to develop them. Do it from other sources. That has been taken into consideration in the price we pay as well. Then I was also alluding to the references that we get from the customers, which nobody else has.”

Here are Pauli’s preliminary comments as Vaisala reports its Q2 results next Tuesday   We expect revenue and profit to have grown from the comparison period due to high-margin growth, supported by favorable demand in Industrial Measurements and the scaling of Xweather. We estimate that the share price already moderately anticipates the possibility of an upward guidance revision for the remainder of the year, but we do not expect a significant guidance increase in connection with the Q2 report. Focus in the report will be on, among other things, the demand impact of data centers on Industrial Measurements and the progress of the Atmo acquisition announced in June. Extreme situations arise unexpectedly. They are therefore random. Suddenly, something happens. Could some AI model have predicted that “by the way, a Kesko truck will be used as Khamenei’s hearse”? Artificial intelligence does a lot and knows an incredible amount, but even it cannot know exactly what will happen tomorrow. This is something that just has to be accepted.

Interestingly, this same problem repeats itself in all fields where current AI tools are used. Data cannot be created synthetically in a reasonable way, so extreme cases cannot really be pre-trained into the model, and models inherently seek the most probable alternative based on the training data used, which causes their utility to drop as soon as you get into even slightly more special situations. There doesn’t seem to be any genuine solution to this phenomenon at the moment, until new architectures are invented where the AI can be provided with an internal “model” of the world and its logic of operation, which would enable a stronger understanding of extreme situations for which there is no existing data.

Vaisala’s Q1 revenue continued to grow 7% y/y in constant currencies, and the EUR 20.7m EBITA was just slightly above estimates. Outlook remains unchanged for now.
