Rauli has published a new company report based on the second quarter   Marimekko’s Q2 results fell short of expectations and the comparison period, mainly due to declining revenue in Finland. Based on this, we have slightly lowered our forecasts and the target price to 11 euros (previously 11.5e). We still see the return expectation offered by dividends and earnings growth as largely good. We reiterate our accumulate recommendation. A considerable number of tourists visit Helsinki and other parts of Finland in the summer. It would be interesting to know how much of this increased Finnish sales figure comes from their purchases.

In Finland, we have actually seen growth in recent years (though very slight in 2023-25, and there may be a small decline in 2026), and it’s a great achievement that the Finnish revenue, which jumped from about 70 MEUR to 100 MEUR during the COVID era, has been maintained at roughly the same level. In the Finnish market, Marimekko is definitely well-known enough that “saturation” is likely visible, and I believe significant growth is challenging.  This is a multifaceted question. I believe that on a comparable product level, international margins are at least not worse. A significant difference is that there is more retail in Finland, while international sales are more wholesale-oriented. The wholesale margin is actually better than the retail margin. On the other hand, selling prices are obviously lower in wholesale, meaning fewer euros are generated from the same volume. The company explained this at the 2024 CMD with the image below. Also, in terms of return on capital, international growth should be favorable as goods are delivered to partners for sale. So, I wouldn’t be worried about this.
