Well, anyway, there’s Ericsson’s earnings report, and a new day with new developments in between.

NYSE: NOK +3%, HEL: NOKIA: -1.5%. It feels like it’s been the same story for many days lately: closing up across the pond, and then over here it’s sold into the red right from the morning.

Here are Atte’s highlights from Ericsson’s Q1 results.  Ericsson reported Q1 results this morning, which in terms of operating figures, fell slightly short of the consensus expectation collected by Bloomberg. In the Networks unit, volumes were growing outside North America, which could also provide support for Nokia’s mobile networks performance in the early part of the year. The market outlook for the full year remains stable, which Nokia has also previously anticipated. In the report, Ericsson highlighted rising component prices as AI investments take capacity off the market. This could put pressure on network equipment manufacturers’ margins in the future. Busy day, I won’t start double-checking the figures myself.  Key figures (Q1 2026)  Net sales: 49.3 billion SEK (reported decrease of 10%, but organic growth was +6%). Adjusted gross margin: 48.1% (remained strong, although it fell slightly from 48.5% a year ago). Adjusted EBITA: 5.6 billion SEK (margin 11.3%). Free cash flow: 5.9 billion SEK (significant improvement from the previous year’s 2.7 billion). Earnings per share (EPS): 0.27 SEK (dropped sharply due to restructuring costs).    Capital return: The company is launching a massive 15 billion SEK share buyback program starting April 23. This is a strong signal of management’s confidence in cash flow.   Challenges and future outlook  Cost pressures: CEO Börje Ekholm warned of rising input costs, especially in semiconductors. This is partly due to the AI industry (such as Nvidia) consuming massive amounts of capacity from the market. Market situation: Ericsson expects the RAN market (network market) to remain flattish in 2026. Seasonality: For Q2, the company expects the Networks segment’s growth to follow the 3-year average, but the Cloud Software unit is expected to grow faster than the average. Nokia lists its space unit in Canada Nokia is spinning off its space unit, developed within Bell Labs, into an independent company. The new company, Modul8, will list on the Canadian TSX Venture Exchange through a reverse listing. Modul8 replaces outdated UHF radios with standardized 4G/5G and optical technology, enabling broadband connections on the Moon and potentially on future Mars missions. In March 2025, the unit will operate the first 4G network in lunar history (IM-2 mission) and is currently developing communication technology for new spacesuits in NASA’s Artemis program. Market capitalization at the time of listing is $120 million.
