The data center is planned for the Sievari industrial area, and the land is owned by the City of Harjavalta. Fortum is involved in the project, developing the site for the data center. In line with Fortum’s strategic goals, the project promotes electrification in the Nordics. Fortum began developing the area in June 2024 by signing a planning reservation agreement with the City of Harjavalta. Within the framework of the agreement, the company has zoned the area together with the city, marketed the area to potential data center operators, and developed the area’s electricity grid connections. The agreement was the first step in developing the area for a potential data center project. Fortum has signed a site development agreement with Nscale and will continue the development work started in 2024. Simultaneously, Nscale and the City of Harjavalta have initiated a process concerning a preliminary land sale for the area. According to the agreement, Fortum’s role in the project is to support the smooth progress of Nscale’s project development by continuing to develop the area for the investment, e.g., by planning electricity grid connections and supporting the permitting process. The development agreement does not have a material impact on Fortum’s results. The capacity of the data center will be defined in the subsequent planning and permitting phases of the project.

<p>Fortum announced yesterday that it had reached an agreement with the German State on the nationalization of Uniper. Fortum will recover its EUR 8 billion financing for Uniper (loan and guarantee) and gain EUR 0.5 billion from its Uniper holding. Even though the Uniper adventure was extremely expensive, the Fortum that hatches from the solution has a relatively attractive profile and with the current electricity market outlook the balance sheet will recover quite quickly. Of course, there are still risks: final separation from Uniper, exit from Russia, windfall taxes and the sustainability of high electricity prices. </p>
