Terranet participates in a new research project to further advance traffic safety.

Terranet

AstaZero*, in collaboration with several partners, including Terranet AB and Trafikverket, is launching a new research project running from 2026 to 2027. The project is funded by Vinnova, Sweden’s innovation agency, and focuses on developing new methods to improve traffic safety.

Terranet has since 2024 participated in both VERDAS and VERDAS 2. The first project focused on pedestrian scenarios and has contributed to the basis for Euro NCAP’s** upcoming robustness tests to be introduced in 2026. VERDAS 2 built on this work and shifted the focus to cyclists, a particularly vulnerable group in traffic. Together, the projects have provided important knowledge about how driver assistance systems should be tested in real-world situations, knowledge that now continues into the next step through VERDAS 3.

VERDAS 3 takes a broader approach and covers more types of accident scenarios, from car-to-car situations to events involving vulnerable road users such as pedestrians, cyclists and riders of light two-wheeled vehicles. The project will develop new test methods, both in real environments and in simulated tests, to better reflect real traffic situations. The work will support Euro NCAP’s updated protocols for 2029 and contribute to the development of more reliable driver assistance systems.

“VERDAS 3 brings together strong partners with a shared goal: to make future driver assistance systems more reliable. For us, it is important to be part of this work,” says Lars Lindell, CEO of Terranet.
