Did the tax authority accept that disclosure made by Nordnet to the tax authority?

Thanks for the comments! It seems that at the beginning of April 2023, an automatic disposal of the shares in question was made on my Nordnet book-entry account at a price of 0 euros. Consequently, I can record the capital losses for the 2023 tax year and, fortunately, I won’t have to look into the sale of this unlisted stock any further. A small consolation in this otherwise sad investment case. However, this stock was a good example and a reminder that in these startup/growth companies based on new innovations, the loss of the entire invested capital is a completely possible risk.

It’s unlikely to be a very common case, and it isn’t comparable to a bankruptcy. Options:  Start by contacting your book-entry account (ao-tili) provider and ask for advice.  Or  Contact Pareto, which apparently handled the delisting; however, you will likely still need to contact your book-entry account provider afterward.  Alternatively…  Adjust the balance to zero on your next tax return and hope the tax authorities don’t notice. If they do, just play dumb and claim you thought the value had gone to zero. Most of the time, the tax authorities don’t have the time to spend on cases under €10k.  Once you somehow manage to sell them or similar – there will certainly be costs involved, but it’s worth it, because you definitely shouldn’t leave a four-figure loss unutilized.

The company is still afloat, but the shares are worthless. I am therefore still a shareholder. Smart Wires still appears as a line item in my book-entry account, with 3,600 shares and a value of €25. (The buy and sell buttons are not available.) I would appreciate hearing more detailed comments or experiences on how selling or canceling those shares could be achieved in this case.

I missed the end of this sad company’s story. Did it go bankrupt or just delist—meaning, are you still a shareholder? In the latter case, it’s worth checking—as I don’t know myself—if there is some off-exchange marketplace in Sweden where these shares could be sold. They likely have no value, so just sell into the bid to get yourself off the shareholder list. Then, of course, there are other options to realize those important losses for tax purposes. Perhaps you think the company went bankrupt because no value shows up in your book-entry account, and you’ll just report them as zero-value in your tax return.

Of course, I could have seen that there weren’t many messages in this thread, so it was quite easy to find my own  But it seems my views back then were a bit pessimistic. That quote at the end is still quite valid, meaning that because there are other (and even simpler) solutions at a lower cost, this has probably quite a bit hindered success. The cost side has hardly decreased, considering the availability of electronics, etc. DLR (Distributed Ledger Technology), on the other hand, seems to be gaining momentum in Finland as well, and this is greatly influenced by the accelerating need for decentralized production and the ultra-fast transition from fossil fuels.
