I returned from parental leave last week back to the grind, and today we got back into the swing of analyst interviews with Boreo.  Such a strong result and the subsequent jump in the share price certainly gave Olli and yours truly a reason to review the case on video as well! Exactly. We are talking about a group of 23 businesses that grew organically by 12% in Q4. Where the order books are now clearly stronger than a year ago. And a clear turn for the better already happened in 2025. The economic outlook also supports the company. Although a roaring upturn is not yet expected, a gradually improving one is. Boreo had a difficult 2024 and the company has gone through a cost-cutting program. I believe the company will emerge even stronger (more efficient) from this. There is debt, but the financing situation is more reasonable than before, considering the direction the company’s revenue, earnings, and market are currently moving. It looks quite good, and there seem to be others in the market with the same mindset when you take a look at the stock on the exchange.

In Boreo’s case, the strategy of buying whenever Kari smiles apparently worked well (return of about 65% per year). Unfortunately, this indicator is now going away

I’m sticking with my bullish stance; in addition to seeing significant upside earnings leverage, I also believe the downside risks are now fairly limited. It’s true that debt levels remain significant, but Boreo’s earnings are generated from so many individual companies that it would take a broader macroeconomic downturn (or similar) for the earnings level to drop significantly. Last time, it took the loss of Russian operations, rising interest rates, and a prolonged slump in the Finnish economy. A collapse in the group’s overall earnings level due to company-specific issues is very unlikely.  Regarding the debt load, it wouldn’t necessarily even need to be reduced that much if and when earnings improve. I believe the risk-reward ratio is currently very attractive with the existing portfolio, with the added option value of inorganic growth opportunities funded by cash flow. Concentrated ownership is naturally a risk, but once earnings normalize and the share price recovers, the shareholder base will likely be expanded (as previously communicated). This is just my own speculation, but could a dual listing in Sweden perhaps even be on Preato’s agenda?
