You’re addressing an important topic! A bit more neutrally about that literacy: familiarizing oneself with how statistics and mathematics model things, understanding where and how parameters are generated, and voilà, suddenly one finds oneself pondering how the company’s strategic goals and their implementation capability are reflected in the model, or if they are reflected at all. Or to put it another way: few drive their car on the highway the whole way reversing, steering with the rearview mirror. I myself would build the narrative of target pricing and analyses more strongly through a proper scenario analysis tool. Unfortunately, there are hardly any proper tools or views on what they should be like. (Taavetti has a view.)

If you have read any of my reports in recent years, or forum comments, it should hopefully be clear that I am definitely not looking at any “quarterly game” here, but rather the valuation has for many years been based on assumed earnings levels for 2027-28.  This matter has already been explained, for example, in this message and in the model portfolio report and video. The short answer to that comment is that the view changed.  Congratulations if it has been clear to you all along which way the price is moving. Unfortunately, I cannot predict it perfectly. The target price naturally does not reflect the business situation (or the share price if you were referring to that).  The targets were set in spring 2023 and were originally for 2027, but the horizon has already been shifted forward a bit along the way. According to them, the company’s sales were supposed to grow with capacity in 2023-25. This has not happened, meaning there has not been enough demand. In fact, according to current forecasts, revenue this year will be at the level the company guided for 2023 (i.e., what the then-capacity would have been sufficient for). So, capacity growth has not brought any revenue growth. Profitability has naturally fallen short of the company’s and analysts’ expectations due to revenue. I don’t understand why volumes would start to rise sharply in 26-27 (even though growth is predicted), when capacity has not been a bottleneck until now. That’s why I consider the reduction or postponement of targets quite natural when they are updated. Companies probably don’t reach their targets on average (this is just a gut feeling), so there shouldn’t be anything special about this. Kicking the can down the road is of course more common so the same target levels can be maintained.  It describes the stock’s valuation in relation to current/near-term earnings. So, it mainly illustrates that earnings growth is needed for the valuation to be reasonable, which I think we can agree on.

Read the analysis and make good stock picks. In plain terms: Target prices and recommendations are for the uncritical. A model portfolio is also a somewhat questionable concept. It’s not advisable to make an analyst a portfolio manager. I know what I’m talking about. I once worked for 9 years as a consultative wealth manager at OP Group. During that entire time, I never actually even knew what our recommendation or target price was for any given stock. Nevertheless, or perhaps precisely because of that, the track record of the advice I gave to clients was very strong. I truly appreciate the work of analysts, but I don’t care for their target prices or recommendations. And I wouldn’t readily take a stock analyst as a portfolio manager.

I am a happy owner of tire shares. (Significant weight in the portfolio.) My comment was related to this “bearishness”. I’m not saying it’s right or wrong. It’s just understandable if there have been 12 consecutive quarters of misses (note that those expectations haven’t been sky-high in recent years). It’s the same in the other direction too. If a stock always “exceeds” expectations, then it’s quite easy to jump on the hype train. The fact that Inderes would now raise the target price to 18 euros and recommend ‘buy’ is no guarantee of anything. The company must prove its capabilities through its actions. And last year’s performance is undeniably very weak. As for the model portfolio, there’s panic because people have been ridiculed for the third year. There’s a great hurry to get things “in order”. This is why these “long-term investments” are immediately thrown out when the recommendation allows. The entire model portfolio could be changed to a trading portfolio and then to a proper long-term portfolio.

Sales in North America grew significantly faster than the market in Q3, which was encouraging. So if those Juva’s forecasts were to materialize, in my opinion, the stock is well worth owning at these prices, especially since the high four-dot valuation risk is a bit strange in comparison. In Aiforia, they are again ready to look several years ahead, meaning not even a Russian priest would understand these things
