The negotiations concerned approximately 50 employees. As a result of the change negotiations, a maximum of 15 job positions will be reduced in Finland, and additionally, the company may implement temporary layoffs of up to 90 days. The change negotiations were related to Lamor’s measures to streamline the company’s global operating model, enable flexible scaling of operations and cost structure in a changing operating environment, and strengthen the company’s competitiveness and profitability. Changes will also be implemented, where possible, through natural attrition and job rearrangements. The changes are expected to be implemented by the end of the year at the latest.

Neste’s facility is indeed the kind where oil produced by Lamor could be used as feedstock. It did take Neste a few years to build the plant, so it wasn’t completed just by snapping their fingers. In pyrolysis oil production, Neste’s partner is Alterra, from whom technology for pyrolysis oil production can also be purchased/licensed.

As I have said on the forum before, I’m technically pretty much a novice. However, I understand that YLE/Neste story to mean that Neste could be a customer for Lamor, similar to Shell now. In other words, they would utilize the oil produced by Lamor. Those more knowledgeable, please comment.

Have I understood correctly that in four years, Lamor has managed to set up a tiny 10,000-tonne plastic recycling plant for Shell (to which those three additional lines can be added = 40,000 tonnes), which is still not in operation? Meanwhile, Neste has built a plant with a maximum capacity of 150,000 tonnes next to it in Porvoo and has already put it into use. Since Finland produces 160,000 tonnes of plastic waste annually, this market is now full. So, a missed opportunity due to the delays? Exactly. Lamor’s glory days are far behind them, even in the company’s traditional business. I don’t recall the company announcing a single cleanup deal in many years. They still reference their heroics in the Gulf of Mexico, which were already 16 years ago, for lack of more recent achievements. They have mentioned conducting some exercises with environmental and port authorities, but those likely don’t generate much revenue. The Persian Gulf coastal states are among the wealthiest in the world; it’s hard to imagine them leaving their preparedness in the hands of a small firm like Lamor. Perhaps they can sell some equipment once the authorities’ stocks are depleted. If Iran mines the area around Hormuz, do we really expect Lamor to be sailing there with its booms and boats?

It is worth remembering that Lamor is not the only company in oil spill response. According to their own claims, they are the world leader, but for example, their competitor Ambipar advertises the same thing. Lamor likely has a genuinely larger foothold in the Middle East than Ambipar, but one wonders who might actually be the world leader in this niche global market.

Plans are already being made for the US to escort tankers through the strait, but Iran might still attack the fully loaded ones. A horrific oil spill, but an incredible amount of business for Lamor.
