Elecster is a manufacturing company. The company designs and manufactures machines and components used for filling bags and other packaging materials in milk production. The machines are used, for example, for pasteurization and sterilization, and for printing labels. In addition, the company has developed systems for quality control, and offers after-sales service in the form of technical support and maintenance. The company has its largest operations in the Nordic countries, the Baltics and Asia.

Thanks @Iikka for the thread! I went through the company myself about a year or two ago. In my opinion, the company is exactly what you would call superficially cheap, because if you look at the size of the company’s free cash flow relative to enterprise value, it isn’t even cheap anymore. Growth is hard to come by and earnings may even be under pressure. Too many operations are at risk in authoritarian countries and growth must be sought in developing countries. Cheap for a reason, in my opinion.

@Iikka has made an excellent tweet thread about the company. Kiitos Iikka, this company is talked about too little. I’m not a fan of the company, but it’s nice to get more information and thoughts on things that are generally discussed very little.  Elecster’s share price is struggling. Elecster has managed to generate about €2.5M in net profit during good years. It’s a strange explanation, quarter after quarter, that it’s so difficult to give up the film packaging factory in Russia. For example, Huhtamäki managed to exit Russia quite decisively and quickly. I wonder about this company’s motive to firmly remain in a country that practices terror. Perhaps, when a company is small enough, it can still operate under the radar there. As a larger company, it would be caught differently for this. I believe that many small investors, on principle, no longer want to invest in this Akaa wonder because of this Russia connection.

I came across Elecster as part of my own project. The company generates very little discussion, and even in terms of the numbers, it’s hard to find anything particularly interesting about it. On an earnings basis, valuation levels lean towards being a bit too expensive. However, the valuation level has dropped to a low P/B of 0.4x, which increases the interest in taking a closer look at the balance sheet contents. The market cap is only 10 million.  The valuation algorithm sets the target price at approximately the P/B 1.0 level and gives a Buy recommendation. There would at least be potential for upside compared to the current level. There are 7.2 million in cash and equivalents, which is a fairly significant amount relative to the market cap. A generous dividend could bring some momentum to the company’s valuation. Non-current assets are mostly tangible assets, so there shouldn’t be any major risk of write-downs associated with them.  For my taste, there aren’t quite enough ingredients for an investment decision. If this were combined with an improvement in profitability, Elecster could be a very interesting investment.

Very well summarized! I agree that valuation multiples are weighed down by the business’s focus on emerging or authoritarian countries. This is somewhat similar to Tecnotree, whose core operations are in emerging markets where the local currency is not necessarily always very stable.
