WALLENSTAM: New version of Gothenburgers' popular Jungans café

Wallenstam

The popular Junggrens café ("Jungans") on Avenyn is now opening again. The premises have gained new space and positive energy through a careful renovation and extension. Wonderful new Gothenburg personalities and finely restored paintings adorn the walls and the interior design has been supplemented with both a bar and lounge. The ambition of the reconstruction has been to create a sense of the happy days of the turn of the century in terms of architecture, interior design and atmosphere.

"The vision is that Jungans will once again become the meeting place it was in the 1980s - Avenyn's wonderful living room where everyone should feel welcome. We aim to offer high quality Swedish home cooking and classic international fare along with sandwiches and small dishes. All in a genuine historical concept with warm and personal service," says the owner Percy Ranebjörk.

After a few months of reconstruction, Junggrens will open in connection with Gothenburg's 400th anniversary. It will be in an environment featuring new areas, an ultra modern new kitchen and a bar with lounge. The total floor space has increased to 300 square meters. With the assistance of the curator Elisabeth Myrman, the walls' iconic paintings have been restored, recreated and supplemented with Gothenburg personalities such as Håkan Hellström, Karin Boye, Mia Skäringer and Mikkey Dee.

"We are happy that this popular and traditional café is being developed on Avenyn together with us. This is both a fine reconstruction project and a long-awaited opening," says Marina Fritsche, Vice CEO and Regional Director for Gothenburg.

"This project is one of the most exciting that I have worked with in a long time. It will be an honor to be able to manage it with my family. We are Gothenburgers ourselves and have managed and developed many cultural heritage institutions in Gothenburg. Through excellent collaboration with Wallenstam, among others in this reconstruction project, we want to ensure that Jungans will be a really fine cultural heritage feature in Gothenburg's restaurant and café history," says Percy.
