Thomas has prepared a new company report on Lamor after the Q3 earnings report.  *Lamor’s Q3 profitability met our expectations, but weak new order development and the updated investment estimate for the Kilpilahti production facility turned the report disappointing. The ramp-up of the plastic recycling business and its associated investment cycle, along with the balance sheet requiring refinancing, keep Lamor’s risk profile elevated for the coming years. As part of the project, deficiencies identified in previous restoration plans will be mapped, and a detailed restoration plan will be developed. The project is part of Peru’s broader national program, which aims to restore a large number of areas contaminated over decades as a result of oil industry operations. The project’s goal is to improve previous restoration plans by taking into account observations and requirements previously presented for them, so that restoration work can proceed. The study will be carried out in cooperation with Lamor’s strategic partner, Engineers & Environmental Peru S.A. Lamor’s share of the contract exceeds 2 million euros and was included in the company’s order book in the second quarter of 2025.

Here are Thomas’s quick comments on Lamor’s Q3 results.  Lamor’s Q3 revenue fell short of our expectations, but operating profit was in line with our forecasts, supported by strong relative profitability. In connection with the report, the company updated its estimate for the total investment in the Kilpilahti chemical plastics recycling plant to EUR 60-70 million (previously EUR 50-60 million). Based on the subdued order intake in the report, we see downward pressure on our forecasts for the coming years, although there is upward pressure on our investment forecasts. It’s difficult to expect anything but costs from Kilpilahti in the first operating year, or perhaps I should say years. There isn’t really a global benchmark that has successfully made chemical recycling profitable. I would gladly learn about a company if someone can present such a case. To achieve multiple production lines in the current factory, at least the first line should be completed first, and only then positive cash flow either from plastic recycling or oil spill response, so that Lamor would have the ability to finance additional investments. However, the sign of the cash flow from the former business is very likely negative. In Lamor’s future, the most likely scenario even in the relatively short term is a share issue, as it is very difficult to see more debt financing coming with this balance sheet structure.

No need to apologize for good questions! Lamor updated its estimate for the total investment need for the Kilpilahti plant to EUR 60-70 million in connection with the Q3 report, from the previous EUR 50-60 million. The exact figure for investments directed to Kilpilahti is not available, but a significant amount of funds has already been put into it; Lamor Recycling Oy’s balance sheet total was EUR 22 million at the end of 2024. There is still a way to go with investments, especially now that the estimate has been updated… Lamor’s own estimate for the plant’s revenue level with 4 production lines is EUR 35-45 million. You are right that from the companies’ perspective, it is difficult to improve profitability when revenue is declining, but Lamor is undergoing a significant efficiency program aimed at cost savings of EUR 8 million, which is behind the anticipated development. In addition, I expect the revenue structure to improve, which supports relative profitability. In Q3, EBIT-% rose from last year despite a significant drop in revenue. Of course, I admit that in terms of forecasting, the chemical plastic recycling business is the most challenging part to predict due to its early stage of development, and that, if anything, can cause discrepancies in my forecasts. I would say first that your 2025 revenue forecast is indeed very optimistic. Achieving it would require more than doubling in Q4 compared to the first 9 months’ level, and nothing promising has been seen in October. Then a question for Grön 1: what is his outlook towards the bond maturing in the summer? Borrowing capacity, market outlook, plan, the impact of the initial phase of Kilpilahti… have the preparations already begun? He can be challenged if/when he talks in circles. Question 2: the press release poetically states that something promising is visible beneath the surface😁What is visible there, or is the surface in need of oil spill response?

Could this be asked of CEO Grön: Have they noticed Canadian Aduro Clean Technologies? Could Lamor and Aduro collaborate in plastic waste treatment in the future? Perhaps with Lamor implementing/selling/distributing Aduro’s solution globally? Just today, Aduro announced that the construction of its pilot plant in London, Ontario, is proceeding on schedule.
