Swedbank has signed the UN Principles for Responsible Banking
The Principles for Responsible Banking were presented in November 2018, and will officially be launched on the 22nd of September 2019 during the UN General Assembly. As of today, 124 banks worldwide have committed to become an official "Signatory" of the UNEP FI's Principles for Responsible Banking.
"We actively and continuously work to integrate sustainability throughout our whole business. The UN's principles for responsible banking are well aligned with the Bank's fundamental commitment to sustainability, where we want to create long-term value for all our stakeholders and contribute to a more sustainable society", says Anders Karlsson, acting President and CEO of Swedbank.
The UNIEP FI's Principles for Responsible Banking aspire to create a global movement; placing banks in an active role to contribute and help speed up positive and sustainable change for individuals, businesses and society.
"The principles give us banks an active role in sustainability issues. It includes both how we work with climate change, how we need to be clearer about both the progress and challenges we have and how we in a concrete way help customers make sustainable choices. As an example, we already offer financing of solar panels and green living but we need to speed up the development considerably", says Fredrik Nilzén, Head of Group Sustainability Swedbank.
