SWECO: Sweco in framework agreement with Statnett for upgrading Norway's electricity grid

Sweco

Sweco has signed several framework agreements encompassing project planning, engineering, and project and construction management for Statnett, the state-owned Transmission System Operator in Norway. The contract period is four years, with an estimated volume for Sweco of more than 500 MSEK, and a potential four-year extension.

Statnett aims to double the transmission grid investments in the coming years, with support from Sweco experts and other parties. A steep increase in electric transmission enables decreased fossil energy consumption and is therefore key to Norway meeting its climate targets.

"An upgraded transmission grid has the capacity to supply significant quantities of renewable energy such as wind and solar power, a more low-emission transportation sector through electrification, and it will also allow green industries to establish operations in Norway", says Rasmus Nord, President of Sweco Norway.

For more than a century Sweco has been a major contributor to the development of Norway's electric power system. Especially through the last decade Sweco has built an extensive experience with Statnett projects.

"We are delighted to win these important framework agreements. We are well-positioned to be a key consultant to Statnett over the coming years, with the task of upgrading a robust transmission grid that secures the supply of electricity as a foundation to a more resilient and sustainable society", says Rasmus Nord.

About Statnett
Statnett is the transmission system operator in the Norwegian energy system and is a state enterprise owned by the Norwegian state through the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy. Statnett owns and operates the transmission grid and maintains the balance between consumption and production, providing citizens and industries with a reliable power supply.
