Sotkamo Silver operates in the exploration of natural resources. The main operations are focused silver, gold, and zinc. Currently the company operates throughout the whole value chain, from analysis and examination, prospecting, to verification and exploration. Operations are mainly found in the Nordic market. The contractor is not replaced by the previous one shutting down machines on 31.12. and the new one starting theirs on 1.1. Preparations have already been underway for quite some time. The smartest thing in this situation would be to smoothly pass the baton so that the resources of both contractors can be utilized and tacit knowledge exchanged peacefully. I do wonder why SoSi didn’t warn already in the last earnings report, when even a layman could clearly see that Q4 wouldn’t be able to mine such quantities to reach the full year target. The price of silver has doubled in a year, but SoSi is still sleeping a Sleeping Beauty’s sleep. I wonder if it will start rising properly soon. The potential is there for it.

TJ has already issued 3 profit warnings this year and always claimed things are back on track, only for them not to be, due to “external reasons.” They haven’t found a mirror yet, nor the buy button for their own company’s shares. The same pattern will likely repeat with the contractor change; everything is supposedly well-planned, and there won’t be any significant disruptions.

I doubt if even changing the contractor will help with the mining technical problems. It would, of course, be nice if the CEO would elaborate on the problems, but his not owning shares is a sufficient signal for me.

I have a small position in SoSi and the idea is to sell it off in the relatively near future. My confidence has pretty much disappeared as they can’t get things moving. But to the actual matter that concerns me. How long does a contractor change take and what kind of delays will there be? It’s unlikely they’ll continue with the same equipment; new ones will surely arrive and old ones will leave. In a mine of that size, there’s probably a bit more than one excavator and a couple of dump trucks. Plus everything else required for this contractor change. I just think it will get quite crowded if machines from two different contractors are on site? And it’s not economically sensible for a contractor to bring in machines to wait until 2026. It would be interesting to hear more about how a contractor change works in practice.

I don’t believe that changing the contractor will cause any interruptions. It was already mentioned in the Q3 earnings report that preparations have begun. I agree with you that the management is unprofessional, but during Jalasto’s time, the contractor has already been changed once, so it’s not a new process. Management surely also understands that if yields are not brought to a normal level during H1, then their positions will start to shake. In my opinion, the board should be refreshed already at the next general meeting. No one really has ownership, and therefore no interest in doing their most important job, which is to oversee the owners’ interests. However, this is probably an impossible idea, because ownership is so fragmented?

The drilling results can be ever so good, but the problem arises in whether they can ever be mined out. If I understood correctly, there have previously been problems specifically with the bedrock, and the best areas have not been able to be mined safely.

In this case, the company’s management can look in the mirror and wonder why things aren’t working. Soon, production will be interrupted again for X amount of time when the contractor changes, there isn’t enough money to cover operational costs, the new contractor will again take some time (Q1) to get the machines running, the silver price peak was already over, and a new share issue is coming.
