Intrum operates in the financial services industry. The company specializes in credit management services, with a focus on invoice purchasing, credit information, invoicing and debt collection-related issues. Intrum operates in the European market, with small and medium-sized corporate customers as its main customer base. The head office is located in Stockholm and the company was founded in 1923.

Intrum has been quiet during March. It has gone down and the short percentage has risen to seven. A large part of the decline is related to Nordic Capital’s sales, but the situation in the Middle East is probably even bigger. Rising interest rates are not good for Intrum, which would like to renegotiate its financing by the end of June at the latest. It is presumably already being negotiated in the background since the beginning of the year. In addition, the Brocc/Cerberus deal from January has not yet been closed. As long as there is no announcement about it, the markets will live in uncertainty as to whether Intrum’s debt restructuring gentlemen will approve the portfolio deal or not. In principle, Intrum is at the mercy of its creditors as long as the Chapter 11 debt package exists. If one paints the worst-case scenario for early summer, Intrum will not get approval for the deal and refinancing will be delayed due to the Middle East crisis shutting down debt financing. Intrum has time to negotiate these until 2027, but if these are not closed by H1 2026 (as Intrum itself has named as the estimated time), a firm suffering from a lack of confidence will certainly not earn more confidence. Look at Vix and Intrum bonds:   Vix 31, highest since the crazy days of the Trade War. Intrum has always been trampled in the mud when Vix rises.   The 2030 bond (a very expensive one) was in a downturn even before the Middle East crisis, the decline only accelerated from there and is now close to the ATL level.   The 2027 bond has remained roughly the same. There is no great concern about its repayment. **  A funny (and useless) observation is that Intrum’s bottoms last and the year before last hit in March. Now that month would be ending conveniently, and tomorrow a quiet period begins. Presumably, NC will not be able to sell during this quiet period, so in principle, a traditional rise to around 50 kr before the earnings report might begin. Of course, the utterly miserable market situation will change things, but it is still worth noting all the same. Upcoming:  Annual General Meeting April 22  Q1 earnings report May 7

NC sold the last of its Cints already in February, after which the stock quickly doubled. So that exit would also support the theory that the NC VIII fund is coming to the end of its road. It was established in December 2013, so it’s about to be 13 years. A typical lifespan for those is 10 years + 1–3 years of extensions. Therefore, it should be closed by this December at the latest.

It seems to be a rumor that April would be the fund’s closing date. I took a look and they hadn’t trimmed their position in CintGroup at all over the last 6 months, and they have over a 20% stake in Noba bank, even though they had one flash sale here a few weeks ago together with Sampo. But in Intrum, the pace of selling has picked up, which was already noticed here.  So it turns out they had actually exited CintGroup. I just read the holdings from the interim reports.

I’ve seen it mentioned several times in secondary sources that NC might be selling its Intrum position by the end of April (due to a fund closure or similar). This would certainly align with the clearly increased short interest. Does anyone have anything more concrete regarding this timeline?

The February shareholder list was posted on the site, but for the most part, it was already known.  NC reduced by over 4 million Avanza pension setup added 0.6 million Vist added 0.5 million Nordnet’s pension setup added 1.5 million Kerstin Danielson added at least enough to break into the top 10

They have already doubled their selling pace, whereas previously fewer than 2 million shares were sold per month. They clearly want to get out quickly. Volumes have remained high in March as well, so I’d bet we’ll see a flagging notification for dropping below 5% this month.

This morning, the shareholder list on the website had not yet been updated, but a wire from Nordnet would confirm that NC was behind that February dump. Based on a quick calculation, the total trading volume for all of February was 18.4 million shares, so NC’s dump accounts for a quite significant portion of this. Unfortunately, the remaining share count allows for similar activity for another couple of months. STOCKHOLM (News Agency Direkt) Nordic Capital has continued selling Intrum shares throughout February. This is evident from the update by the ownership data service Holdings. By February 25th, Nordic Capital owned approximately 10.6 million shares of the credit management company, representing just under 7.8 percent of the share capital. This means that Nordic Capital sold a total of 4.2 million shares during February. After making smaller reductions to its holdings in previous years, Nordic Capital began selling shares on a larger scale in October 2024. At that time, the private equity firm owned over 30 percent of Intrum.
