<div class="abstract">The first section has now been completed in the construction of Elgiganten's new logistics facility in Jönköping, a building covering a total floor area of 86,600 square metres with a load-bearing structure made entirely from glulam.</div>25 April 2023, 11.00 a.m CEST&nbsp;&nbsp;Catena is constructing the facility with BRA Bygg as the main contractor. The project has set demanding sustainability requirements, with the aim of achieving environmental certification in accordance with BREEAM Excellent. This certification imposes exacting demands on the entire production process, not least regarding the choice of materials, which is why the building frame is to be made from glulam. In total, there are over 500 beams that are 24 meters long and almost 2 meters high."This facility is groundbreaking in many ways. The aim is for the building to be certified in accordance with WELL Core to ensure a healthy workplace, and in accordance with BREEAM Excellent to ensure high environmental performance. Our choice is entirely related to minimising the carbon footprint of the building; nothing more, nothing less. A wooden frame will give the building a much lower carbon footprint than if it were constructed using steel - it's as simple as that," says Jonas Arvidsson, Regional Manager at Catena.&nbsp;"We're proud to be part of blazing a trail and showing that it is possible to use timber as a construction material for ever-larger buildings," comments Magnus Riemer, CEO at BRA AB.&nbsp;"We are seeing a sharp rise in demand for our glulam frames. It is also becoming increasingly common to combine wood, steel and concrete in what are known as `hybrid buildings'. It's a question of using the right materials in the right place, and the whole process marks an important step in the right direction towards minimising carbon footprints," says Johan Åhlen, CEO at Moelven Töreboda."We have to consider many different factors when choosing materials. Number one is that we want to be as climate-smart as possible when we build a new property; we want to minimise our carbon footprint. We are working with various environmental certifications and using glulam is making a positive contribution to this work," says Andreas Alm, Maintenance &amp; Environment Manager at Elgiganten.&nbsp;The site covers an area of approximately 200,000 square metres adjacent to the Torsvik industrial area by the E4, parallel to the Hyltena interchange and next to Elgiganten's existing central warehouse.
