Optomed operates in the medical technology sector. The company conducts research and development of specialized eye cameras. Development takes place of both hardware and software that are resold under different brands. Operations are held on a global level, with the largest presence in the Nordic market. Customers consist of research institutes and hospitals. The company has its headquarters in Oulu.

From that green board, I can almost certainly translate at least this: OPTOMED = AI-based complete solution for fundus screening = Already in use in over 6000 hospitals worldwide Left side icon texts:  = 50-degree field of view, no pupil dilation, 99% imageability, world-leading  = World’s first handheld AI camera with FDA, CE, and NMPA approvals/certifications At the bottom it says:  = Primary care hospitals / primary healthcare hospitals | eye clinics On the right side, there is more text, but a person covers it so badly that a reliable full sentence cannot be obtained. However, it seems to have something like:  AI 眼底病 = fundus diseases  So the message of the board is practically: Optomed advertises an AI-based comprehensive solution for fundus imaging/screening, which is aimed at hospitals and eye clinics.

I continued crunching the Aurora AEYE figures for last year. The current reporting method certainly doesn’t make analyzing the company easy, but the information extracted from communications, when combined, reveals the following. Two Businesses in One Figure Optomed reports a single recurring revenue (RR) figure that includes two completely different components: old software and the new Aurora AEYE device business. These are currently moving in different directions. Aurora is growing. Software is declining. The CEO directly confirmed this in the Q3 2025 interview, almost verbatim: “in the early part of the year, practically all of that recurring revenue was from our software side, and the software side has had a weak year, and business has left there, so it doesn’t give a complete picture of how Aurora AI has developed.” So What Do the Numbers Tell Us? RR for 2025 grew from €4,636k to €5,678k, an increase of €1,042k. All of this growth came from Aurora. But Aurora’s actual growth was significantly higher than that €1,042k because it first had to compensate for the decline in the software business and only then produced a net surplus. To put it simply: if Aurora grew by, say, €1,800k during the year and software declined by €750k, the net figure only shows +€1,042k. Aurora’s true performance is hidden by the weakness of the software. In its financial statements, the company itself states: “Aurora AEYE-based revenue has grown in every quarter this year and growth has accelerated especially in the latter half of the year.” Why H2 2025 Net Growth Looks Weak Q3 2025 net growth was +€257k and Q4 was only +€132k. This looks like a weakening. In reality, it indicates that the decline in the software business hit hardest in H2. Aurora accelerated, but software declined just as quickly. The net figure remained small even though Aurora’s performance was the best of the entire year. For this reason, Q4 2025 is operationally the strongest Aurora quarter, even though the net figure is the weakest. In addition, Q4 was compared to Q4 2024, which included a €1.5 million CAPEX order. Still, revenue held its own. The strengthening of the euro against the dollar mechanically ate up some of the growth on top of that. Comparison Base Challenge in H1 2026 Q1 and Q2 2025 still included the software base, as far as I understand, without major exits. In H1 2026, the software has already declined significantly. This means that the YoY comparison in H1 2026 will be structurally difficult even if Aurora grows strongly. The market might read the H1 figures as too low precisely for this reason. The situation will turn in H2 2026 when both comparison periods already include the decreased software base. Then Aurora’s growth will begin to appear purely in the net figures. The Q3 release in November will be the latest point at which this surfacing will be clearly readable for the first time. Other Of course, it is possible that the software business will accelerate again in H1 2026, but based on the statements, I don’t consider it very likely. Perhaps rather the opposite. Aurora AEYE’s reasonably good start seems to be buried as a relatively small absolute amount in the software’s uninspired performance. If/when this is and will be the case, the company might not get a full ten out of ten for its communication. The most important thing, however, is that Aurora AEYE is already growing at a very good pace below the surface, and there is no competition for portables in sight.

In my opinion, it’s difficult to accurately predict when Mr. Market will understand. Frankly, that’s the wrong question. A better question is what three things will define that moment, and in what order are they likely to be resolved. ARR growth is the most visible and important of these. Aurora AEYE completed its first year of operation essentially without ISO 27001 certification and Epic integration, yet still reached an ARR level of approximately €2 million. This year is the first year where both are in use. If growth doesn’t accelerate from this starting point, it would be a truly concerning signal about the commercial appeal of the product. Savings of over a million from the cost program are a necessary prerequisite for achieving something concrete from growth without a continuous need for additional financing. The path first goes through EBITDA positivity towards cash flow positivity. Only then does a sensible financing structure open up: bank debt instead of equity dilution. This path takes time, but it exists if both growth and cost discipline work simultaneously. Financing risk is the third factor. I believe it accounts for a significant portion of the current share price. The market is clearly pricing in a scenario where growth lingers sufficiently and costs don’t decrease enough, leading to a need for additional financing under unfavorable terms and dilution of shares. This risk is real and should not be underestimated, even though I personally consider its probability lower than the share price suggests, in light of current signals. Additionally, in the name of honesty, it must be stated that small medtech companies have broadly suffered across the board in early 2026. Not everything is Optomed-specific. Understanding the US market will likely happen in two waves. The first wave will be through quarterly figures; when ARR growth has been sufficiently sustained and clearly accelerating for long enough, it will also begin to be reflected in the valuation. The second wave will come when that potential new indication collaboration materializes and investors begin to price in platform potential instead of just diabetic screening. Q1 2026 will not resolve either of these. The nature of SaaS business makes this particular phase interesting. A slow start and accelerating growth is the model where value realization happens late but then, when it does happen, it happens quickly. The Q1 2026 announcement will tell if the acceleration has begun.

Optomed is now at the stage where iCare was around 2013-2014. That is, it is building its place in the market. I would say that Opto, however, has such strong background trends in the AI wave that the growth rate (of AI solutions) will be faster than iCare’s growth.
